National Highway development proposal 2023 budget 19.5 lakh Cr?

Considering the facts The Ministry of Road Transport has proposed to construct new Highways and expand the present Highways estimated to a total length of 41,000 km (approx.) across the country.

National Highway development proposal budget 19.5 lacks cr

Brief details about the proposal:

According to the plan in Phase 1, the length of the High-Speed Corridor that is to be constructed extends to a length of 15,246 km while 11,179 km is the length of road required to upgrade the single lane to a double lane. Spur and Feeder ways include 2894 km of length. Emphasis has also been given to the strategic roads in the border areas which will be very much useful for the military once completed and the length extends to 2379 km. Further in order to reduce the traffic in the NHS around cities and improve port connectivity another 2651 km of road to be constructed.

The bidding of the first phase of the plan is supposed to be completed by 2028-29 and 2031-32 will be the completion time for the construction and the total cost of construction is estimated to be 19.5 Lac Cr.

The Govt. has also planned for Phase 2 of the project having a target length of 49,780 km.

According to the officials, the present average speed of vehicles on the NH is 47 kmph, and completion of the project would increase the speed up to 85 kmph.

This increase in average speed will reduce the logistics costs by 9-10%, of the GDP.

Presently India has operational 3900 km of high-speed corridors and is expected to complete 11000 km by 2026-27 while India is in need of 50000 km of high-speed corridors of which a span of 36500 km has been identified to fulfil the gap.
