IPL 2024 16th Edition to start on:
The squads of all the teams for IPL 2024 have been confirmed and the Indian cricketing fraternity along with the fans are now waiting for the BCCI to release the match fixtures of 2024. Though BCCI is expected to make the announcement very soon, according to Dainik’s report, the new season of the IPL is set to begin on March 22.

Earlier In 2009 and 2014, the IPL was played outside India due to the elections. However, in 2019, the entire tournament was held within the country and by this time also the BCCI is interested in hosting the IPL in India.
According to the report, the IPL matches will be played at alternate venues during the particular phase of Lok Sabha elections which will take place in cities that host IPL matches. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is putting all efforts to host the IPL in India this year besides the general elections. There have been discussions between the BCCI and the government regarding this matter.
Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions is likely to play the first match of IPL this season. Last time they defeated Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 claiming the title for the fifth time. Chennai is also supposed to host the finals of IPL 2024.

This time it was a mini auction and the franchises were determined to buy only a handful of players in their respective teams hence only 72 players managed to get the IPL contract out of more than 300. The total cost of bidding for the 16th edition of the IPL 2024 to secure the services of the players went up to ₹ 230 Cr. which included all ten franchises. Australia’s pace bowler Mitchell Starc was the costliest player in the auction at a signing amount of ₹ 24.75 Cr by Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah took to X to announce that the IPL auction drew a total of 22.8 million viewers, higher than those for auctions held in the 2022 auction.
